Approach pippalad to seek knowledge and spiritual powers. The sage asks them to stay with him for a period of one year and study under,and after the period ,if they still have doubts,they can seek clarification again.
They study under under him for a year and after that , the first question they ask is on how life originates on the earth.
Pippalad answers them, referring to matter and energy. Matter is called rayi and means the body or jada ruled by or originating in the moon and energy is prana,that is, life ruled by or originating from the Sun.when energy or prana enters the body, life stars and functions related to life like growth etc., begin.
In the Bhagawat Gita XIII-27, the same principle is given regarding the origin of life. The energy of the sun is fire called vaiswanara without him nothing exists.
In Astrology, the mother is shown by the Moon because it is the mother who gives the body or jada and sun shows the father as he gives life or prana. All ritual and functions in temples are based on the positions of the moon and the Sun in Zodiac. The position of sun gives the month and position of the moon in zodiac gives the janam Rasi and birth star. The distance from the moon to the sun gives the tithi or lunar day.
Since the moon governs the body and the sun life in it,purification of the body and soul can be performed by certain rituals in certain tithi only.
This is Scientific basis for the observance of shaanti when the distance from the sun to the moon is between 60-72 digree or 240- 252 degree similarly ,Ekadashi means the distance of the moon from the sun is bitween120-132 digree or 300- 312 digree , pradosh( trayodashi) 144-156 digree or 324-336 digree . On these particular days the activities in the body will be suitable for certain type of cleansing functions of the body( rahi or matter ) and prana ( energy).
In the distance between the sun and the moon is so important.there must be some importance in the tithi also on which a person is born.Based on this principle one can find out the compatibility for marriage.the compatibility based on the birth-Tithi is found to be very effective because tithi controls the body(rayi) and life ( prana).It can be generally seen that the nature of people born on the 1st tithi in the bright half and the 14th Tithi in the dark half is almost similar. Similarly the 2nd Tithi of the bright half agrees with the 13th 9f the dark half. People born with similar good nature can be compatible.
